City recognizes volunteers for National Volunteer Week
S
To coincide with National Volunteer Week, city officials marked the week by recognizing some local volunteers.
Prior to the April 14 meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, Mayor Lynn Sebourn and the aldermen marked the week of April 20-26 as National Volunteer Week by recognizing “Volunteers Who Have a Heart for Hospice” with members of the Hospice and Palliative Care Compassus team with an official proclamation.
The proclamation read as follows:
“Whereas, volunteering is an important activity for millions of Americans throughout the U.S.; the more than 420,000 compassionate individuals who serve as trained hospice volunteers deserve special recognition during this week of celebration and awareness; and
“Whereas, these dedicated hospice volunteers give of their time and talent in support of patients and families who are our relatives, friends and neighbors; and
“Whereas, these volunteers are essential members of hospice and palliative care teams that care for more than 1.72 million hospice patients every year and ensure they live with hope, dignity and love despite serious and life-limiting illnesses; and
“Whereas, hospice volunteers contribute more than 19 million hours of service every year, motivated by a selfless wish to serve; and
“Whereas, hospice volunteers provided more than 1,280 hours of service right here in our communities last year; and
“Whereas, National Volunteer Week provides the opportunity to recognize the contributions of these caring hospice volunteers and raise awareness of the benefits of hospice and palliative care.
“Now, therefore, be it resolved that I, Lynn Sebourn, Mayor of Tullahoma, do hereby proclaim April 20–26, 2025 as National Volunteer Week in the city of Tullahoma and encourage the support and participation of all citizens in learning more about and participating in the provision of hospice and palliative care to those in our community.”
