The sheriff has named the seven inmates that were part of an alleged riot at the Coffee County Jail that resulted in fire hoses being turned on the inmate to break up the disturbance.
The incident happened this past week in the “BA” housing unit of the jail. According to a report by Sheriff Chad Partin, seven inmates made their way to the top of the janitor closet inside the day room. These inmates allegedly then were involved in the disturbance.
The Jail notified the sheriff at about 4 p.m. and he arrived shortly after. He then attempted to communicate with the inmates as to what the issue was. These inmates refused to comply with the direction of the jail staff and the sheriff.
Partin said less lethal options were used in an attempt to gain compliance with directions to get down which met with one inmate coming down from the elevated position.
At that point, short bursts with a fire hose were utilized to gain compliance from the remaining inmates with the suspects then peacefully surrendering.
No criminal charges will be filed against the inmates related to this incident. However, internal disciplinary actions regarding the actions of the inmate could be forthcoming.
Inmates allegedly associated with the uprising were Dakota E. Newsom who was in jail on charges of Manufacture, Sale, Delivery, Possession of Methamphetamine, Domestic Assault, Violation of two counts of Probation, two counts of Assault and court order; Nicholas D Beasley who was in jail on charges of DUI, Simple Possession, Driving on Revoked/Suspended, Contraband in a Penal Institution, Possession of a Weapon, Domestic Violence, Assault, Theft of Property, Burglary; Frederick C.
