Yashimo Cherry is a good urban tree
L
As I drive around Tullahoma and surrounding towns, I am always looking at the trees. This has been a beautiful spring. The Yashimo Cherry trees have been standouts. The City of Tullahoma has planted many of them along our streets. What a surprise to find them gracing the Kroger gas pump station! And they dot the yards in many subdivisions.
The Yashimo Cherry tree is a good urban tree for many reasons. Now we are witnessing its amazing flowers and their almond fragrance. It is also a fast grower with an artistic branching pattern. It bears a fruit that birds and other wildlife feed on, but deer are not attracted to it. It can grow in acidic, clay soil where landscapes in a city are ever changing. I would love to see more of these Yashimo Cherry trees in Tullahoma. I hope you will take a moment to enjoy this beautiful tree.
