Softball in the midst of the program’s best regular season in nearly a decade

The Tullahoma softball team currently has a record of 16-7, which is the most wins they have had in a regular season since the 2016-2017 season where they finished 18-11. The Lady Wildcats have four games left of non-playoff games to top that mark, and they seem to have the momentum to accomplish that feat, as they have won two of their three games since their 14-1 blowout win over South Pittsburg.
Cascade High School
This was the only loss the Lady Wildcats took after their win against South Pitt, and it was a heartbreaker. They lost to the opposing Cascade Champions 9-8 on April 17.
Tullahoma garnered a 7-1 lead with an ambush of runs in the top of the third inning, as the ‘Cats plated home five in the inning.
A mix of two errors, two singles, two force groundouts, and two walks was what summed up Tullahoma’s scoring outburst.
Cascade continued to fight despite being down six runs and picked up three runs back in a blink in the bottom of the third inning. This momentum Cascade built continued while Tullahoma’s offense essentially shutdown for the last four innings in the game.
The opposing Champions went on to outscore the Wildcats 5-1 the rest of the way, including a walk-off double that gave the Champions their last run of the game, setting the ‘Cats’ seventh loss of the season into stone.
The big performer in this game for Tullahoma was Avanley Metcalf. She led the team in hits going three for four, with two of her three hits going for doubles. Ellie Simpson also had a solid performance going two for three and leading Tullahoma in RBIs with two.
Marion County
This was the Lady Wildcats second meeting with Marion Co. and they managed to put forth the same amount of runs in the team’s last contest, 13. Tullahoma won 13-1 this go-round on April 18, making the teams combined score from the two games they played 26-4.
The Wildcats in the short four-inning game–ending because of mercy rule–managed to put up 11 hits. Aleigha Raby and Kylee Holt led the way with two hits apiece, with every other player in the lineup for the ‘Cats ending the day with a hit next to their name.
Amaya Sharp was on the mound for Tullahoma and pitched well in the short spurt of a game. She allowed just two hits, and one run while striking out two batters.
Blackman
Sweet, sweet revenge.
This was again Tullahoma’s second time facing an opponent, in Blackman High School, and they managed to split the season series with a 15-7 win on April 22. The Lady Wildcats lost in a blowout earlier this year to the opposing Blaze 15-5.
In this contest, the two players that dealt the most damage were Tullahoma’s Madison Goad and Kaitlynn Gattis. The two combined for nine RBIs, four hits, and three home runs. Tullahoma has power sprinkled throughout this roster, and this was just another game where it was showcased.
This was the 12th game this year where the ‘Cats have scored over 10 runs in a game.
The Lady Wildcats will look to get one game closer to surpassing the 2016-2017 record, as they take on Cascade again on April 24.
