Cold winter forces Tree Day delay
Tennessee Tree Day 2025 has been rescheduled until Saturday, March 29. Frozen ground conditions in January and February delayed the native tree harvest by six weeks at one of the key nurseries that provides trees for Tree Day. Tennessee residents may reserve native trees to plant on their properties until March 16, by visiting the event website: tectn.org/tennesseetreeday
The new dates for the statewide tree-planting event are as follows:
Tree reservations were open online to the general public at the event website tectn.org/tennesseetreeday through March 16.
March 28 and 29: Participants pick up reserved trees at community pick-up sites across Tennessee (see map at event website).
March 29: Participants plant trees at their homes and in their communities.
“We realize this is an inconvenience for all parties involved, and we greatly appreciate the understanding, flexibility, and commitment of our sponsors, partners and volunteers in making this event a success,” said Cynthia Hernandez, Tree Program Manager at Tennessee Environmental Council. “We know Tree Day 2025 will be an amazing event, thanks to more than 6,000 registered participants planting more than 75,000 native trees on 3/29,” says Hernandez.
Tennessee Tree Day is an annual statewide tree planting event organized by Tennessee Environmental Council, a non-profit organization.
