Disaster was avoided on Interstate 24 this past week as the North Coffee Volunteer Fire Department put out a truck fire in which the trailer carried a payload of chemicals
According to the North Coffee VFD, firemen responded to call Tuesday, Feb. 25, at around 2:46 p.m. about semi-trailer truck hauling hazmat chemicals with its rear tires/brakes on fire on Interstate 24 Westbound at mile-marker 103.
“The trailer was hauling approximately 2,300 lbs. of Nitrogen gas/resin (Autofroth) in ten separate tanks,” the fire department said.
The fire was extinguished quickly just as it had breached the interior of the trailer. The chemicals were not involved in the fire and no chemicals were released. No injuries were reported.
The volunteer fire department thanked all of the local agencies that assisted at the scene.
“Thank you to Manchester Fire Rescue Department, Coffee County Emergency Management Agency/ Homeland Security, Coffee County Sheriff’s Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol for their assistance in bringing this near disastrous situation safely under control,” the fire department said.
