Tullahoma beats Shelbyville by double digits

The Tullahoma boys’ basketball team racked up their fourth win in a row with a 60-41 win over Shelbyville on Tuesday night.
After trailing 8-2 early in the opening quarter of the game, head coach of Tullahoma Jason Welch called a timeout and his troops responded. Out of the timeout, the Wildcats went on an 11-0 run gaining the lead at 13-8.
Junior Tullahoma Forward Jayden Thompson had eight of the team’s first 13 points of the game.
Thompson does most of his damage in the low post for the Wildcats. He finds his spots and executes. If Tullahoma is struggling to score the ball, it often ends up in his hands on the low block. Against Shelbyville, this rang true as the ball found Thompson near the basket on multiple occasions—resulting in his eight first-quarter points.
Thompson is also a great defender and may be the best rebounder on the team if not one of the best. His aggressive style of play has been vital in Tullahoma’s current four game win streak.
Thompson finished as Tullahoma’s second-leading scorer with 16, finishing behind Xavier Farrell, who lit up the stat sheet again with another 20+ point performance, finishing with 24.
Recent Region 5-5A football special team player of the year, Khani Johnson, also put in a solid performance for the Wildcats scoring 14 points, showing that he can perform both on turf and on the hardwood. Johnson was efficient in his shot selection—not forcing anything when rising for a shot. He played inside the offense and took what was given to him.
With every game this team plays, they look more confident individually and as a group. They will look to extend their win streak to five against Coffee County on Dec. 5.
