South Jackson nominated for Broadway World Awards

BRADY FLANIGANStaff Writer

The South Jackson Performing Arts Center is seeking the spotlight in the battle for the 2024 Broadway World Awards in the Nashville region.

Hosted annually by the popular theater news outlet Broadway World, as of publication SJPAC has received 41 nominations (as of publication) in 16 of the 17 total categories, only lacking a nomination in the “Best Sound Design of a Play or Musical” section. Any show performed at SJPAC between Oct. 1 of 2023 and Sept. 30 of 2024 has the potential to be nominated. Winners are determined by popular vote and will be announced in January of 2025.

SJPAC director Greg Gressel encourages patrons and members of the community to go here and vote. Voting is open to anyone, requiring only a unique email, as voting can only be done once per category.

In 2021 SJPAC received the “Theater of the Decade” award, which is now on display in the arts center’s greenroom, and Gressel considers attention like this important, as it offers due recognition to the performers and SJPAC, and brings opportunities for future funding by spotlighting the arts center, ensuring SJPAC will continue to be able to provide high quality arts to Middle Tennessee.
