Former Wildcat punter transfers to LSU

Former Tullahoma Wildcat punter Grant Chadwick, from the 2024 graduating class is on the move in the college transfer portal.

The 6’5” college freshman finished his first year at Middle Tennessee State University, and after an amazing year punting the pigskin, he gained some interest from power-conference schools.

Chadwick finished his first year with the Blue Raiders kicking 51 punts for an average of 43.4 yards a punt and hitting a season-long, 60-yard punt.  Out of his 51 punts, 13 went over 50 yards, and 21 of them were downed inside the 20-yard line.

The 11th-ranked punter in the 2024 recruiting class was on the Ray Guy Award watch list —an award given to the best punter in all of college football.

The big-booted Chadwick will walk into Baton Rouge in an ideal situation. The Tigers last season played the likes of two punters—junior Peyton Todd and senior Blake Ochsendorf. Ochensdorf in the 2024 season recorded just a total of 12 punts with an average of 40.2 yards per kick. The former Louisiana state punter will not return to LSU next year, as he has used all of his seven years of eligibility. Todd took over for Ochensdorf during the season, kicking a team-high 18 punts—averaging a total of 41.6 yards per boot.

Todd sits as the only other active punter on the roster besides the newly required Chadwick. With a subpar year and a sophomore coming off a stellar season and appearing not to even have reached his ceiling, head coach of the Tigers Brian Kelly and special teams coordinator Slade Nagle may opt to the 2024 Tullahoma graduate as the starter.
