Lady Wildcats remain undefeated with win over BGA

McLayne Bobo dropped a game-high 31 in the Lady Wildcats’ 63-40 win over BGA, and it didn’t even feel like it. It was one of those games where you look back at the stat sheet and you go “Wait what?” That reaction speaks to how good she has been so far this season. She has had big scoring performances like the one she had Monday night nearly every game this year, so much so that these outstanding performances have started to feel like something of the norm.
Her big scoring night and the play of two first-year Wildcats are what stood out about this game.
Lizzy Sharpton continues to impress defensively and with her hustle. Every game she plays, she usually at least ends up on the floor one time, usually by diving for a loose ball. As just a freshman she is a big tone-setter for this team with her gritty style of play.
“We love how Lizzy competes,” head coach Chad Hibdon said following the Wildcats win.
“We put her on the ball in the press just because of her length and aggressiveness. She made them throw tough passes, which led to some easy points. She is just a great player and she can do multiple things for us in multiple positions and was an igniter for us in that little run we had in the first quarter.”
Sharpton’s scrappy style of play, played an integral role in helping her team overcome a brief 12-11 BGA lead, as they raced out to a 34-26 advantage after the conclusion of the second quarter.
Kenzie Farrell, another freshman for the Wildcats showed how she can help this team now, and in the future, with her performance against BGA.
“Kenzie has just done such a good job of being ready. She has been ready the last two or three games and has come in and been a spark plug as well.” I love the fact that she has accepted her role right now, but she is working her way up. She is giving herself an opportunity to earn more minutes by being prepared,” coach Hibdon said.
Farrell finished with five points, with four of them coming in the third quarter.
This team has so many things to like about it, and even though it is early in the season, this squad has seemed to already found their identity, as they improved their unbeaten record to 4-0.
