Who will flip the switch on Tullahoma’s Christmas tree?

R

Tullahoma’s Flip the Switch festival and lighting of the Christmas tree will take place on Saturday, Nov. 30. The festivities will begin at 10 a.m., with food booths, gift vendors, and special events and activities.

This is the third year since Flip the Switch has grown into a street festival atmosphere. North Atlantic Street will be closed from West Lincoln Street to Grundy Street, and the city parking lot will be closed.

There will be a live petting zoo with a camel and other animals. Lyle Russell will be there with some of his raptor friends, birds of prey such as hawks and owls.

Mrs. Claus will be there to read stories to youngsters, with books being provided by the Literacy Council. The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will have a Letters to Santa Booth.  Mrs. Claus has graciously consented to take them back to Santa when she goes home.

The caboose will be open for anyone wishing to walk through.

There will be a canvas Christmas tree for handprints. Both children and adults alike are encouraged to put their handprints, with their name and date, on the tree. The tree will then be brought back next year for more handprints. It is hoped that those who start this year will return next year and even after that to continue adding their prints.

The main event, the lighting of the tree, will take place at 4:30 p.m. A drawing will be held to determine who will have the honor of flipping the switch. Festival goers may go to the Letters to Santa (DAR) booth to enter their names into the drawing. The name drawn will flip the switch to light the tree and the caboose.

Flip the Switch will be held this Saturday after Thanksgiving.
