First Responders celebrate volunteerism with event

The annual National First Responders Day celebration was held Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Coffee County Fairgrounds to recognize the efforts of the men and women who serve.

Organizer Neal Simmons said the event lets the citizens see the equipment and capabilities of the departments funded in part by tax dollars.

“We have all the volunteer fire departments here: Manchester City, Tullahoma Fire Departments and AEDC Fire Department,” Simmons said.

In addition to the fire departments, and the Coffee County Rescue Squad, law enforcement personnel from Manchester PD, Coffee County Sheriff’s Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol were at the event, along with the Coffee County Emergency Management Agency.

“We wanted to let the first responders get out, mingle with each other and share what they do with the public,” Simmons said. “We hope to make it bigger and better every year.”
