The Coffee County Rescue Squad dispatched their high angle rope rescue team this week to rescue a teenager who fell from a 60-foot trail embankment.
The rescue squad received a call Monday, Oct. 14, at approximately 6 p.m. to a report regarding a teenager who had slipped and fell down a near vertical face and was stuck on a small rock approximately 60 feet below the trail on private property in the Summitville area.
The rescue squad’s high angle rope rescue team arrived on scene and lowered two rescuers down to the patient, where first responders were able to confirm the victim had only suffered bumps and bruises and was still able to walk.
“After putting a harness and helmet on the victim, the team was able to utilize a simple mechanical advantage system and some muscle to haul both the rescuers and victim to safety and an awaiting ambulance,” rescue squad officials said.
The Coffee County Rescue Squad received assistance from the Summitville Volunteer Fire Department, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Coffee County EMS, and multiple local citizens. The rescue squad thanked the other agencies for their assistance as well as the Coffee County 911 Communication Center’s staff, who were vital in taking the call and dispatching the appropriate resources in a timely manner.
“Thanks to our dedicated volunteers and these awesome departments, the victim was quickly and safely removed from harm,” rescue squad officials said. “Teamwork made the dream work. Great coordination between all departments on scene. CCRS is grateful to work alongside these dedicated and professional first responders.”
