Nettles named County Chair Pro Tempore

The Coffee County Commission filled many of the open positions on various committees as part of the annual committee appointment process during its October meeting.

Many of these vacancies were left open following the August 1 election.

The Commission elected Commissioner Laura Nettles Commission Pro Tempore, to fill in as commission chairman in the absence of the Chairman.

Citing the importance of the positon, Commissioner Terry Hershman sought to amend the nomination to make the position’s term longer than one year. The motion failed for lack of a second when County Mayor Dennis Hunt noted state code mandates the appointment be made annually.

Hunt was elected Chairman of the Commission during the meeting. That position is usually, but not necessarily, held by the county mayor.

“We had so many committee vacancies,” Hunt said.

Appointments to standing committees included Budget and Finance members freshman commissioner Dowe Jones and Roger Chambers in addition to returning commissioners Laura Nettles, Tim Brown, Tim Morris, Terry Hershman, Tina Reed, Tim Stubblefield and Lynn Sebourn.

Sebourn, the former Budget and Finance Chairman and newly-elected Tullahoma Mayor, said he would stepdown as chairman.
