Wildcats celebrate Homecoming with big win

The Tullahoma High School football team hosted Spring Hill on Friday for their Homecoming and won 31-10.
Marvancy Johnson led the team, scoring three rushing touchdowns. Khani Johnson scored the other touchdown on a punt return in the first quarter. Chase Dodson botted in a field goal in the third quarter for the other Tullahoma points.
Lucas Reed went 9-for-18 with 83 yards passing. M. Johnson had 20 attempts for 143 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. His longest run was 19 yards. Dominick Harris added 55 yards on 9 carries. K. Johnson had 4 catches for 23 yards and Alex Bobo had 4 for 57 yards.
The ‘Cats scored 14 points early, then slowed down until the fourth where they added another 14 points to seal the win.
M. Johnson ran three times for 43 yards and a touchdown on the first drive. The last run went for 18 yards and snuck inside the pylon for the score. Chase Dodson’s extra point was good 7-0 with 9:43 left in the first quarter. The Raiders picked up a first down and then Will Hyden made a tackle for a loss of 4. Tullahoma forced an incomplete pass on third down. The punt rolled out of bounds at the Tullahoma 23. Tullahoma had to punt back quickly to Spring Hill, their drive started at their own 30 after a good punt from Sam Bobo. The first play was a pass for 17 yards, then a quarterback run was stopped after 1 yard, Robert Tatum made the tackle. After a gain of 3, the Raiders went back to another quarterback keeper gained but it lost 2. Robert Brooks was the first Wildcat there. K. Johnson returned the punt all the way to the house to make it 13-0 with 2:05 left in the quarter. Dodson drilled the point after try, making it 14-0. Spring Hill ran the ball three straight time for a total of 12 yards to end the first quarter.
The second quarter opened with a run left that lost 3, Bronson Bunch made the tackle. The second down pass gained 2, Hyden was right there to make the stop. The third down play went for no gain, three ‘Cats threw him to the ground. The punt was downed at the Tullahoma 28. Reed connected with A. Bobo on a deep post and he took the ball inside the Raiders 30, but a defender punched the ball out and Spring Hill recovered at their own 27. The quarterback was sacked back at his own 20 by Hyden. The running back fell down after the handoff for a loss of 1. A wide receiver screen was stopped for no gain, the ball was fumbled. The Raiders recovered by it at the 15. The punt rolled down to the Tullahoma 34 with 6:55 left in the first half. M. Johnson carried twice to open the drive for 9 yards. Then Reed hit A. Bobo at the 49 for the first down. M. Johnson ran for a gain of 6 to the Raiders 44. A quick screen to K. Johnson went for no gain. M. Johnson carried to the 35. He got it again and made it to the 33. After a pair of incompletions, Tullahoma attempted a 50 yard field goal. The kick came up just short. The defense forced a quick three-and-out, and the Spring Hill punt was short giving the Wildcats a short field with 55 seconds left in the half. A tunnel screen to K. Johnson moved the ball to the 25. The next pass was intercepted at the 23. The Raiders then quickly moved to the 40. They moved across the 50 on the next play. Then a screen left to the running back got a first down at the 31. Their heave to the end zone as time ran out was intercepted by S. Bobo. A personal foul against Tullahoma gave the Raiders an untimed down from the 16. Spring Hill kicked a field goal and made it 14-3 at the half.
On the second play of the half, Spring Hill threw a pass left to a wheel route, the receiver caught the ball and outran Tullahoma’s defense to the house to make it 14-10 with 11:02. M. Johnson ran for a gain of 7 on the ensuing Tullahoma series. He got it again for a pickup of 11. Reed ran to the 39 before being brought down. Jakoby Hill got a carry and gained 8. Harris went up the middle to the 17. He carried again to the 10. The drive ended there and Dodson nailed a 28 yard kick to make it 17-10 with 5:55 left in the third. Then Dodson drilled the kickoff off of a Raider and Tullahoma recovered at the 49. M. Johnson ran for a gain of 5. He went up the middle the next play to the 37. That is where the drive stalled when an illegal man downfield forced Tullahoma to punt. Spring Hill was facing a fourth down as the quarter ended.
An offside made it fourth and short, the fake punt was no good. Tullahoma took over at the Spring Hill 47. A. Bobo caught a pass short of the sticks. S. Bobo’s punt was muffed and then recovered by A. Bobo at the 13. M. Johnson went up the middle for 3 yards. A jet sweep to K. Johnson gained 1, then M. Johnson went up the middle again. This time for the 9 yard score. Dodson’s kick was good, 24-10 with 8:59 remaining. Tullahoma forced a turnover on downs at their own 44. Harris ran, bounced out right and got to the spring Hill 40 for a first. Reed kept on a read option and got inside the 10 but a hold brought it back to the 48. Harris ran to the Raiders 49. On third and 19, Reed scrambled to the 32 and was hit out of bounds. The flag moved it to the 17 for a first down with 4:24 remaining. After a hold, a run by M. Johnson got to the 7 before going out of bounds. He got it again going up the gut for the touchdown. Dodson’s kick was good 31-10 with 3:55 left. Trey Palmer hit the running back immediately and forced a fumble then recovered at the 14. Tullahoma ran all but 10 seconds off the clock, Spring Hill ran one play before time expired and the Wildcats won 31-10.
