Dust explosion injures one in Estill fire

A fire erupted at the Tyson plant in neighboring Franklin County over the weekend, leaving one injured after a dust explosion.

According to the Estill Springs Police Department, the incident began when a grain truck was unloading, triggering a ‘dust explosion’ beneath the truck. This explosion extended into the grain hopper, which leads into the on-site grain silo. The fire subsequently traveled up the grain elevator, igniting additional grain stored in the facility.

The fire was quickly extinguished after the arrival of emergency responders; however, one individual sustained burns and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

“We extend our sincere thanks to our own fire department, as well as Capitol Hill Fire, Decherd Fire, Winchester Fire and North Franklin County Fire Departments, for their swift and coordinated response,” the Estill Police Department said.
