Men’s League first-place race heats up

The Royals, Piñatas, Shovels and Stache are tied atop the standings at 6-2 with two games left in the season.
The Shovels and Royals played Thursday night. The Shovels also take on the Piñatas to end the regular season on Monday. The Stache played the 4-4 Reds Thursday and take on the 2-6 Braves Monday. The Royals play the Outlaws to end their season. The Piñatas faced off with the Pink Sox Thursday.
Stache beat Outlaws 13-1
The Stache allowed just two hits in four innings. Darrin Cole was on the mound for all four innings. He struck out eight, walked two and had an unearned run score. Layne Roberts and Sean Whinnery led the team with two hits each. Logan Underhill had the other hit. Underhill and Whinnery had a double. The Stache drew six walks, led by Noah Fann with two. Underhill, Jax King, Cole and Chayse Frye each took one.
Jake Newcomb and Matthew Guidry had the two hits for the team. Newcomb had a double for his hit that scored the team’s only run. Tyler Ferrell and Dillion Childers drew the only two walks for the team. Jacob Sledge started for the Outlaws. He pitched an inning. Sledge struck out two, walked two, gave up one hit and allowed three earned runs. Zorion Pullen took the bump next and went two innings. He struck out two, walked three, allowed two hits and gave up seven unearned runs. Nick Howell pitched the last inning striking out two. He walked one, gave up two hits and allowed one earned run.
Shovels blank Pink Sox 15-0
The Shelbvul Shovels gave up a hit in the top of the first, walked one in the third and hit a batter in the third for the only three baserunners for the Pink Sox. Jacob Price opened the game for the Shovels and threw 26 pitches in two innings. He struck out three and only allowed the one baserunner. Austin Johnson pitched the third inning in 16 pitches. He walked one, hit one and struck out two batters. Jay Blackburn led the way offensively with three hits and five RBI. He was a triple away from the cycle. Johnson, Gage Underwood and Jacob Cooper had the other three hits. They took eight walks as a team, Taylor Simmons drew three and Jacob Hawkins took two as the only guys with multiple walks. Blake Smith, Nick Hopper and Underwood took the other three.
The Pink Sox losing streak extended to four in a row. Xavier Northcutt had the only hit and only walk for the team in the contest. Dylan Clanton started on the bump. He went one inning and struck out one. He walked four, gave up four hits and allowed five earned runs. Northcutt took over and finished out the game, going 1.2 innings. He struck out one, walked four, gave up two hits and allowed three earned runs.
Royals shutout Reds 3-0
Charlie Pierce went five innings on the mound for the Royals. He struck out five, walked five and gave up just three hits. He handed the ball to Corey Mullins. Mullins pitched an inning, struck out one and gave up two hits. The Royals had nine hits and Ross Capps led the way with three. Terrin Maupin, Mullins, Jeff Riddle, Ryan Poole, JJ Webster and Tyler Cavender had one. Webster had the only extra base hit with a double. Jason Waller and Webster took a walk.
Chevis Hoover delivered a quality start for the Reds. He went six innings allowing just one earned run. Hoover struck out seven, walked two and gave up nine hits. He was also one of the five batters to get a hit off of the Royals pitchers. Cody Stephens, Tyler Wright, Logan Burt and Ahmad Taylor recorded the other hits. Burt had the only extra base knock with a double. Matthew Wright led the team in walks drawn with two. Stephens, Hoover and Brandon Ness each had one.
Piñatas beat Braves 8-1
Vann Boyce led the Piñatas, pitching five innings of one-run ball while recording two hits and driving in two. One of his hits was a solo home run. Ryan Edwards was the other Piñatas batter to get two hits. Brady Nugent, Luke Davidson, Aiden Edwards, AJ Parker and Adam Bates all had a base hit. The team drew three walks, JD Parker, Reed Emerson and Brady O’Neal drew them. Bates pitched the last inning of the game and recorded one strikeout and walked one batter.
The Braves tough stretch continued with them dropping their third straight contest. Chase Morris, Rick Sanchez, Kyle Ramsey and Matt Satterfield each had a hit from the Braves. Ramsey had a double and Satterfield tripled. Sanchez, Nate Peay and Troy Harp drew a walk. Austin Ingle started the game, going two innings. He struck out one, walked three, allowed five hits and gave up three earned runs. Justin Hendrick pitched the last three innings. He allowed four hits and struck out two.
