GOP caucus gets busier

More offices have been added to the Coffee County Republican Caucus set for Sept. 5, with county commission, school board and constable being added to the list to be considered by the Republican faithful.

The Coffee County Republican Party will conduct a caucus on Sept. 5, to select candidates for Coffee County Commission Districts 2 and 6, Coffee County School Board Seat 2 (Districts 2-6-7) and County Constable Seat 1 (Districts 1-3-4) for the Nov. 5 General Election ballot.  These seats are open because of the resignations of Commissioner Dennis Hunt, Commissioner Joey Hobbs, School Board member Brent Parsley and Constable William Carden. The caucus will be held at the Community Room of the Coffee County Administrative Plaza at 1327 McArthur St., Manchester.

Registration of voters begins at 5 p.m., with the caucus starting at 6 p.m. Those desiring to register and vote in the caucus must bring identification (driver’s license or voter registration card) for review by a Contest and Credentials Committee.  Only “bona fide Republicans” as defined by the Bylaws of the Tennessee Republican Party (“Bylaws”) are allowed to participate and vote in the caucus.  Pursuant to Article IX, Section 1(A) (1) of the Bylaws, a “bona fide Republican” is an individual “… who has voted in at least three of the four most recent statewide Republican primary elections…”  Republicans who were not of legal age and unable to vote in three of the last four primary elections can obtain approval to participate from a State Executive Committee member the night of the caucus.
