Tullahoma High School Baseball Team earns city recognition

In a heartfelt ceremony held at City Hall, the Tullahoma High School Baseball Team was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from Mayor Ray Knowis for their accomplishment of winning the title of 2024 3A class state champions.

Knowis acknowledged the team’s impressive accomplishments and dedication to the sport during the July 8 Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting. The event was attended by city council members, excited parents and various members of the community. The climax of the ceremony came with the presentation of the Certificate of Recognition from Mayor Knowis.

Before presenting the award, Mayor Knowis asked the players, “Who’s the captain of this team?” and after a moment of snickers and silence, the team elected their All-State pitcher Evan Tomlin to receive the award. The team came forward for an official picture and was followed by a standing applause from the audience. As the Tullahoma High School Baseball Team prepares for the coming season in 2025 they do so with the enthusiasm and support of the entire city of Tullahoma.

The Tullahoma High School baseball team beat Station Camp 7-4 in the Class 3A State Championship to bring the trophy home for the first time since 1990 back in May.

Tullahoma had 10 hits in the game with four ‘Cats having multiple hits. Baylan Tuten, Evan Tomlin, Trevor Cole and Hunter Hogan had two hits each. Andrew Fulmer and Colon Emory had the other hits. They drew three walks, Tuten with two and Tomlin had one.

Tuten threw 78 pitches in 3.2 innings. He struck out six batters. Hogan tossed 74 in his three innings of work. He struck out four batters. Mason Bratcher threw five pitches in his 0.1 innings pitched and struck out the last batter of the game.

That would be the last game for the ‘Cats’ seven seniors on the team; Cade Fanning, Avery Smith, Jayron Morris, Evan Tomlin, Colton Emory, Bobby Nichols and Derek Nolasco.

The Wildcats made it through the State bracket scoring at least seven runs in every game. They also only allowed 13 runs throughout the entire postseason, with seven coming in their four games of the State bracket in Murfreesboro. Tullahoma rattled off 22 straight wins to finish the season.

The last game Tullahoma lost was all the way back on April 8 against Lawrence County in the first game of a double header. The Wildcats won the second game after scoring a pair of runs in the sixth. They started the season with a 4-2 loss to Station Camp before winning five in a row. They split the next two games making their record 6-3. The ‘Cats took the next three games before a 11-9 loss to Mason, OH. Tullahoma won four of the next six games before they went on the massive 22 game winning streak to end the year. The final record for the Wildcats was 36-6.
