Kevin Nee, a Tullahoma native, was inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame for his career as a gymnastics coach in Louisiana.
This was the 28th annual induction ceremony for the NHSACA and was held in Bismarck, ND. At the ceremony Nee was joined by Tullahoma Native and former gymnastics coach Randy Wilson.
“Coach Wilson has always been there for me,” Nee said. “He was at my last college meet. He was at my last high school state meet as a head coach. He was there when I was inducted to the LHSAA Hall of Fame and he was there in Bismarck. And he actually drove me down to Jacksonville State University two weeks before school opened to interview for gymnastics scholarship which I took.”
Nee’s last collegiate meet was against David Lipscomb College. Jacksonville State won by 0.2. Also at the meet with Wilson and Nee was another THS gymnast, Jeff Hale.
There are just four coaches in the NHSACA hall of fame that coached in Tennessee. The first inducted was John Wade Tucker in 1997. Then Benny Ray Monroe in 1998, Kenneth L. Netherland in 2000 and Tom Weathers in 2001. Nee was inducted from Louisiana were there have had over 10 coaches inducted.
Nee’s teams dominated in a competitive state, winning 32 total LHSAA State Championships. Nee retired as the head coach in 2019, but has continued to coach as a volunteer assistant at Baton Rouge High School where he coached from 1979-2019.
Nee was inducted into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association hall of fame in 2022 and coach Wilson joined him for that event as well.
