Tullahoma sweeps games at Giles County

Tullahoma High School basketball teams traveled for their first matchup with the Bobcats. The Lady Wildcats put a lid on the hoop and held Giles to just seven shots made from the field, while in the night cap the Wildcats had an explosive second half scoring 42 points to start district play 3-0.

The Lady ‘Cats were led in scoring by McLayne Bobo with 17 points. She scored 7 in the second quarter. Isabella Lidstrom scored 12 points with 7 coming in the third quarter.

Tullahoma shut down their opponent in the first quarter, giving up 5 points. The Lady ‘Cats were led in scoring by Lidstrom in the quarter with a make from beyond the arc. Brindley Duncan, McLayne Bobo, Lily Melton and Emilee Shuran all scored 2 points from the field.

The Lady Wildcats continued the strong play in the second to take a 20-10 lead into halftime. Bobo led the way with 7 points in the quarter. She hit a 3-pointer and both free throw attempts. Lidstrom scored the other 2 points for Tullahoma in the quarter.  Karson Brown and Caydee Pipkins led the way for Giles with 2 points each.

The Lady ‘Cats had the best offensive quarter of the contest scoring 20 points in the third. Lidstrom led the charge with 7 points. Melton scored 5, hitting a long range shot. Duncan and Shuran each scored 3 points. Duncan made a 3-pointer and Shuran hit a field goal and free throw. Bobo scored the other 2 points for the Wildcats. The Lady Bobcats scored 7 points, led by Brown, Pipkins and Kiya Gibson with 2 points each. Tullahoma led 40-17 going to the fourth.

Even with a big lead, Tullahoma won the fourth quarter 13-10. Bobo led the team with 6 points in the fourth. Shuran scored 4 points. Lily Morris scored 2 points. Aubrey North scored 1 point from a free throw. Brown led Giles County scoring 8 points, all from the stripe.

The Lady ‘Cats hit 20 field goals including four 3-pointers and went 9-for-12 from the foul line. They held Giles County to seven made field goals including one 3. The Lady Bobcats went 12-for-21 from the free throw line.

On Thursday the Lady ‘Cats took down Lawrence County 47-40. Lawrence County was the district leader. The game was tied at 29 after the third quarter. Lily Melton led the Wildcats with 17 points. She iced the game hitting 5-of-6 free throws in the last 36 seconds of the game. Aubrey North scored 10 points with 5 coming in the 18-point fourth quarter for Tullahoma.

Tullahoma was led in scoring by Xavier Farrell with 16 points, scoring 9 in the fourth quarter. Keegan Taylor scored 13 points, he went 7-for-8 from the stripe. Khani Johnson and Jaiden Sanchez scored 10.

The Wildcat defense was stifling in the first quarter holding the Bobcats to one made field goal. Taylor led the ‘Cats with 3 points making a long range shot. Sanchez and DeAndre Jenkins scored 2 points each. KT Turner scored the 3-pointer for Giles County.

Tullahoma lost a competitive second quarter 16-15. Johnson and Farrell led the Wildcats with 4 points each. Johnson hit a shot beyond the arc and Farrell made two baskets. Sanchez scored 3 points. Taylor and Alex Bobo both scored 2 points. Bobo scored from the field and Taylor hit both free throw attempts. Jaceion Coffey led the Bobcats with 6 points in the quarter. Tullahoma led 22-19 at halftime.

The ‘Cats scored 20 points in the third. Jenkins led the way with 5 points, including a 3-pointer. Taylor and Farrell both hit a shot from beyond the arc. Sanchez scored 3 points converting an and-one. Johnson, Austin Tinnon and Bryson Steverson scored 2 points each. Giles County scored 21 points in the quarter, led by Turner with 10 points. The Wildcats led 42-40 going into the fourth.

Tullahoma won the quarter 22-18. Farrell scored 9 points in the quarter to led the Wildcats. Taylor scored 5 points, going for 5 for 6 from the foul line. Johnson scored 4 points. He hit a 3-pointer and a free throw. Tinnon and Sanchez scored 2 points each. Turner led the Bobcats with 14 points in the fourth. Tullahoma held on for the 64-58 victory to start 3-0 in district play.

The Wildcats hit 19 field goals, including eight 3-pointers. They went 14 for 22 from the foul line. Giles County hit 17 shots with 11 being from beyond the arc. They went 13 for 21 from the stripe.

On Thursday the Wildcats lost their first district game to Lawrence County 68-53. Tullahoma was tied with Lawrence County atop the district prior to the game. Khani Johnson led the way for the ‘Cats with 15 points, scoring 8 in the first quarter. Keegan Taylor scored 10 points. He made four shots, two 3-points and two from inside the arc.

Tullahoma traveled to Marshall County Friday but the results were unavailable at the time of print. They will travel to Franklin County on Monday and host Central Magnet on Tuesday, the Lady Wildcats’ game will tipoff at 6 p.m. with the Wildcats’ game following.
