Tullahoma drops games to Coffee County

Tullahoma hosted Coffee County Friday night for their last matchup of the season and the Wildcats fell in both games.

The Lady Wildcats dropped their fourth straight game 37-26. They were led in scoring by Lily Melton with 8 points, and McLayne Bobo added 8 points. The Lady Raiders were led by Natalie Barnes with 20 points, including 9 in the first quarter.

Nyjah Gibbs scored the first points of the game, but Coffee County led 15-9 after the first quarter. Gibbs totaled 4 points in the quarter and Melton scored 5. The Lady Raiders were led by Barnes’ 9 points.

The second quarter was a defensive frenzy, both teams were scoreless for the first 4:30 of the quarter. Melton hit a free throw for the only Tullahoma points in the second at that point. Jules Ferrell scored 4 points in the second. The Raiders led 22-10 at halftime.

The Lady ‘Cats won the third quarter 9-7. Bobo led the team with 6 points in the quarter. Aubrey North scored the other 3 points for the team when she sunk a shot from downtown. Olivia Vincent led Coffee County with 3 points in the quarter. The score was 29-19 after the third quarter.

Melton hit a 3-pointer with 1:07 left in the game to make it 35-26, but the Lady Wildcats could not get closer and fell 37-26. The 3 points for Melton led the team in the quarter. Bobo and Lakaiyah Barnes both added 2 points. The Lady Raiders got 6 points from Barnes including 4 from the foul line to lead them in the final period.

Tullahoma went 6 for 9 from the free throw line and only hit two 3-pointers, while Coffee County went 12 for 17 from the stripe and hit five 3-pointers.

The Lady ‘Cats lost 51-30 at Rockvale earlier in the week. They were led by Nyjah Gibbs with 8 points. The team went 14 for 19 from the foul line in the game. with 11 points. Isabella Lidstrom and McLayne Bobo both scored 7 points.

The Wildcats had their four game winning streak snapped in an overtime thriller 63-57. Tullahoma were led by Keegan Taylor with 13 points. Khani Johnson had 11 points and Austin Tinnon added 10. Coffee County was led by Jackson Shemwell with 25 points and Cooper Reed with 20.

The game began with 3 by Taylor. The ‘Cats hit five 3-pointers in the first. Taylor and Johnson both drained two each. DeAndre Jenkins hit the other shot from beyond the arc. The Raiders scored 10 points, Brady Wright accounted for 7 of them. Tullahoma led 15-10 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter was slow for the Wildcats, scoring only 5 points. Xavier Farrell scored 4 points and Jaiden Sanchez hit a free throw. Coffee County scored 9 points in the quarter including a buzzer beater to make it 20-19 at the break. Shemwell led the Raiders with 4 points in the second.

The ‘Cats won the third quarter to increase their lead before the fourth. Malik Grizzard led the team with 7 points in the period. He went 4 for 4 from the foul line. Taylor scored 5 points including another make from distance. Tinnon, Farrell and Jayden Thompson each added 2 points each. Shemwell scored 9 of the Raiders’ 14 points. Tullahoma led 38-33 going into the fourth quarter.

The Raiders made it 48-47 after Shemwell converts an and one with two minutes left in regulation. The next possession he hit a 3-pointer after Coffee County got an offensive rebound to make it 50-48 with a minute left. Farrell swished a 15 foot pull-up jumper to tie the game up with 31.5 left. The Raiders ran the clock all the way down and missed the buzzer beater, so the game went into overtime. Tinnon led the ‘Cats with 6 points in the fourth. Taylor and Sanchez both added 2 points to go with Farrell’s tying bucket. Reed led the Raiders with 8 points in the fourth.

The extra period opened with a 3-pointer by Shemwell. Johnson scored the first points for Tullahoma when he sank two free throws with 2:28 left. A foul put Coffee County into the bonus and they hit both shots to go back up 55-52 with 2:15 left. The Raiders hit another free throw before Tinnon finished through contact in the post to make it 56-54 with 1:14 left. Johnson hit another shot from the foul line to make it 57-55 with 44.9 left, but that was as close as it got. The Raiders did not miss another free throw and won 63-57 to end the ‘Cats four game win streak.

Tullahoma went 8 for 14 from the free throw line and hit seven 3-pointers. Coffee County went 11 for 17 from the line and hit six 3-pointers.

The Wildcats beat Rockvale 60-41 for their fourth straight win earlier in the week. Tinnon and Farrell led the team with 13 points each.

The Lady Wildcats will host Christ Presbyterian Academy at THS Friday at 4 p.m. as a part of the Jeff Taylor Memorial Christmas Classic. The Wildcats will play Thursday against Dyersburg at 7 p.m. and again Friday against Glencliff following the Lady ‘Cats.
