Houston Edward Wolford Obituary
Houston Edward Wolford, 76, of Hermitage passed away on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023 at Kempton Assisted Living in Hermitage. He was born on August 11, 1947 to the late Tracy and Dollie Dean Wolford of the New Hermon community in Shelbyville, Tennessee.
He is survived by his sister Jean Wolford (Darrell) Gibson of Tullahoma, one nephew Alan Gibson of Cookeville, Tennessee and one niece Genetta (Kevin) South of Cookeville, one great-nephew Joshua (Carly) South and one great-niece Erica South. After graduating from Central High School in Shelbyville, he attended Massey Technical Institute in Florida for two years. He then enlisted in the US Air Force for four years. He worked in Nashville at Electric Business Machines for several years and retired from Direct Insurance. Edward inherited his daddy’s fix-it ability and could craft most anything a friend or family member needed. He was an outdoors person, had a boat and fished in the nearby lakes and enjoyed target shooting. Every third week he would drive to Tullahoma and spend the weekend with his mother, always bringing her fresh fruits and vegetables from the Farmers’ Market. She kept a list of to-do jobs, which he willingly performed, and also mowed her yard. Edward was kind and compassionate, and the interest of others always came first. Alan and Genetta enjoyed receiving his Christmas gifts because he had a knack for knowing just what they wanted. He was wise and witty, with a dry sense of humor at times.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m., at Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelbyville. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Tullahoma Animal Shelter, 942 Maplewood Avenue, Tullahoma, Tennessee 37388.
Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
