West Middle basketball dominates South Middle

West Middle Girls’ Basketball team hosted the South Middle Lady Trojans and won 49-15.

The win extended the Lady ‘Cats winning streak to four games. Adalyn Nelson led the team in scoring with 11 points, including 6 in the second quarter. Alaiah Treuhaft scored 10 points, all in the second period.

The game began with a 15-0 run throughout the first quarter for West. Addison Vincent scored 5 points in the quarter, going 3 for 4 from the foul line. Kenzie Farrell added 5 more points including a make from beyond the arc. Madison McCarl and Lizzy Sharpton both scored a bucket. Joslynn Lidstrom hit a free throw for her only point of the game.

The Lady Bobcats extended their lead, scoring 18 points in the second quarter. Treuhaft’s 10 led the team in the period. Nelson scored 6, hitting a 3-pointer. Vincent added a bucket. South scored their first points of the game in the quarter. Khylee Speich hit a pair of free throws. Chloe Cole and Zoe Cole both made a shot from the field to make it 33-6 at the half.

The third quarter was highlighted by McCarl’s 4 points. Farrell and Nelson both made a shot for 2 points each. Zoie Roberts made a shot while being fouled during the third for her only points in the game. Sharpton went 1 for 2 from the foul line. South scored 8 points in the quarter, split evenly between Zoe Cole and Chloe Cole.  

There was not much scoring in the fourth quarter with a running clock. Nelson scored 3 points, making a free throw. Vincent finished her night scoring with another bucket to total 9 on the game. Speich hit a shot from the foul line to give the Lady Trojans their only point of the quarter.  

The West Boys’ team got another big win, 41-21.

The game was close at the half with the Bobcats only up 19-14, but a 22-7 second half put the Trojans away.

West was led by Price Harden with 17 points, scoring in every quarter.

The Bobcats scored 11 points in the opening quarter. Blake Melton accounted for 5 points, he scored his first points on a shot from downtown. Harden made two field goals for 4 points. Zion Jeffery scored the other 2 points on a shot from the field. South’s Kavean Sutton scored 7 points, including a 3-pointer in the first. The Bobcats led 11-7.

West was led in scoring by Harden during the second quarter with 4 more points. Landin Johnson made the other field goal in the quarter, Cooper Knight and Lincoln Bitton both hit a free throw during the second quarter. Sutton led the Trojans again with 4 points in the second. Brennan Taylor hit a 3-pointer to give South 14 points at the break. West led 19-14 at halftime.

The Bobcats ran away with the game after halftime going on a 13-0 run during the third quarter. Harden hit three shots for 6 points in the period. Melton and Trae King both drained a 3-pointer in the third. Knight made his second free throw of the game rounding out the teas scoring during the quarter.

The fourth quarter was filled with free throw attempts. West shot 10 and South shot 11. The Bobcats went 5 for 10. Jeffery led the team going 4 for 4. Harden made a field goal and went 1 for 4. Johnson scored the other points in the fourth for West on a shot from the field. The Trojans went 7 for 11. Levi Lindsay went 3 for 5, William Money went 3 for 4 and Jacoba Fells went 1 for 2.

Both teams will travel to Manchester on Dec. 4 for a game against Coffee County Middle. They go to Blackman tonight with the girls’ JV game starting at 4 p.m.
