Motlow basketball sweeps Volunteer State
The Motlow men’s and women’s basketball teams went on the road and beat TCCAA rival Volunteer State in Gallatin on Saturday. Both Motlow squads remain unbeaten in conference play.
Prior to facing Gallatin Saturday, the Motlow Bucks forced visiting Roane State into 27 turnovers and had 22 assists on 36 made baskets, beating the Raiders 87-71 Wed, Nov. 15, at Nisbett Center on Motlow’s Moore County campus. Knoxville freshman Aiden Goins and Bahamas classmate Anfernee Hanna each scored 16 points to lead the Bucks. Hanna added nine rebounds, while Goins pulled down seven rebounds and five blocked shots.
Motlow shot 51 percent from the field and held Roane State to 42 percent. Neither team shot 3-pointers well, with Roane hitting four and Motlow three. The Bucks hit 12-20 free throws, while the Raiders shot 33 free throws but only made 17. Sophomore LaVonte Harris logged a double-double, scoring 10 points with 13 rebounds and eight assists, four steals, and two blocked shots. JaDarian Faulkner scored six points with five assists and five steals, Isaiah Curry scored 11 with four assists, Andrew Lamuno scored eight with three assists, and Lawrence Montgomery had eight point and two steals.
For the matchup against Gallatin, the Motlow women (2-0, 3-3) evened their overall record with a 63-56 win over the Lady Pioneers in Saturday’s first contest. The Bucks held the Volunteers to 19 points in the first half, then scored 24 themselves in the third quarter to put the home team away.
The Bucks men’s team (2-0, 3-2) was equally impressive, racing to a 103-79 win. Motlow led 53-36 at the half and rolled to their second straight victory. The Bucks won the rebounding battle 48-32. Harris led the way with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Faulkner added 14 points and 11 assists.
The Bucks then stepped outside the TCCAA and hosted Snead State from Alabama Monday night. The full results for the game were unavailable by press time.
