Motlow women edged in opener
Motlow (0-1) fell to Itawamba 68-62 in its season opener Wednesday night in Fulton, MS.
The Bucks staged a frantic comeback in the fourth quarter, scoring 25 points, but it wasn’t enough as 30 personal fouls were too much to overcome. Three Motlow players fouled out and two others had four fouls.
Clarksville freshman Lovely Alexander led the Bucks in scoring with 20 points and added six assists, four rebounds, and two steals. She hit 6-8 three-point attempts. Dan’Angela Wilson, her former teammate at Blackman High School, also had a solid game with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Florida sophomore Samara Calso scored 12 points with four rebounds and two assists. Fayetteville freshman Autum Nunemaker led Motlow on the boards with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Sophomore Ja’Mya Gooch added seven points, sophomore Destiny Russell scored three with four rebounds, and Nunemaker scored two.
Motlow shot the ball extremely well, hitting 61.3 percent of its field goals, 68.8 from three-point range, and 72.2 percent from the free throw line.
