Christmas shorts at Coffee County Community Room

Crash Course Theater is proud to return from an extended break with a variety of plays assembled together as one show, “Christmas Shorts” on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 1 and 2 at 8:30 p.m. at Coffee County Community Room, 1329 McArthur St. (part of the Administrative Plaza) in Manchester. “Christmas Shorts” explores tough questions like: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Does Santa deserve all of the cookies left out? And do zombies, talking turkeys, pickles, or spiders have a place in the Christmas stories?

“Christmas Shorts” is a relatively new concept for Crash Course Theater and for the area. It is a collection of ten-minute plays collected and read by a three person panel. That panel whittled over a hundred plays into 37 and then finally decided on the best 16. Those will be presented over four days, each play shown twice. These plays vary in subject, from holiday hook-ups to elves on strike, hallmark holiday movies to a three person version of A Christmas Carol.

Focusing on the playwright’s voice, the director’s joys, and the actor’s choice, “Christmas Shorts” will be presented by Crash Course Theater with a minimalist approach and set on four stages around the room. Some of the plays presented on Dec. 1 and 2 deal with more mature matters, suggested ages 10+. This program is directed by Will Prater and several of the cast. It features playwrights from all over the country: Karen Howes, Lindsay Kennedy, Uma Incrocci, Enid Cokinos, Brian Vinero, Rachel Feeny-Williams, Len Fonte, Dwayne Yancey, Mildred Hark and Noel McQueen. It also features stories by O. Henry, Charles Dickens and L. Frank Baum and plays by local playwrights such as Gwyn Diller, The Playwright’s Voice and Adeline Diller.

It will be performed at Coffee County Community Room, 1329 McArthur St. in Manchester on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. and Dec 1 and 2 at 8:30 p.m. General admission is $10 for ages 13 and over and $5 for under.
