The ‘Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ rides to South Jackson

The South Jackson Community Playhouse Theatre Series will be setting the mood for Halloween in Tullahoma with Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” this week.

The classic, spooky tale of Ichabod Crane learning about the hauntings of Sleepy Hollow and the legendary chase between him and the Headless Horseman is set to take place at South Jackson Performing Art Center’s Courtyard stage from Thurs, Oct. 5, through Sat, Oct. 7. Showtime for all three shows is 7 p.m. and tickets are $15. Tickets can be purchased at southjacksonciviccenter.thundertix.com or by calling the box office at

South Jackson officials encourage attendees to bring a chair to South Jackson’s first outdoor show in The Courtyard.

“Enjoy this classic tale of superstitions and spooky tales as Ichabod Crane learns all about the hauntings of the town of Sleepy Hollow and its inhabitants,” South Jackson officials said. “Watch that glorious chase between Ichabod and that daunting Hessian, The Headless Horseman. Meet Dallas as he struts his stuff as the horse of the headless Hessian soldier.”

This rendition of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” is the adaptation by John Heimbuch and Jon Ferguson. The story takes place in the 19th century in the village of Sleepy Hollow, where stories of wonder and strangeness surround the legend of a mighty headless horseman. When the humble schoolteacher Ichabod Crane vies for the hand of the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel, the townsfolk might protest, but it is ultimately the Horseman who will decide Ichabod’s fate.
