Wildcats feast on Pioneers 37-0

Tullahoma hosted Warren County for senior night and won 37-0.
Before the game the seniors were honored. Football team members, cheerleaders, band members and ROTC representatives were recognized.
Seniors made highlights throughout the game. Malik Grizzard had two receiving touchdowns. Jalen Hill had two sacks and multiple pressures. The opposite edge rusher Ezra Myers had a sack and multiple pressures too. Khani Johnson scored a touchdown and Ethan Hargrove had an interception that he returned down to the 1-yard line.
Warren County won the coin toss and chose to receive. Wildcat DeCarlos Slaughter made a tackle for a loss of 5 yards on the first play. Jack Damron made the tackle on second down and the ball came out, but the Pioneers recovered. On third and 15 Hill recorded his first sack back at the 7 to make it fourth and 23.
Johnson returned the punt to the Warren County 9-yard line, but a flag for block in the back brought the ball back to the 45. A bubble screen to Johnson gained 2. Mason Bratcher’s pass to Bryson Steverson crossing the field was incomplete. An offside penalty made it third and 3. Marvancy Johnson carried and got 4 yards on the run for a first down. A quick pass to K. Johnson gained 9. M. Johnson picked up another first down at the 17 on a run. He got it again and gained 9 more yards. On third and 1 Bratcher threw a pass to K. Johnson on a slant for the 8-yard TD. Grant Chadwick’s extra point was good, 7-0 with 6:37 left in first quarter.
Wildcat Will Hyden made the tackle on a run for 4 yards on the next Pioneer possession. Then Warren County picked up a first down at their own 32 on a run. After a 2 yard run by the fullback, Myers made a tackle at the 27 for a loss of 7. Then on third and 15, Hill chased down the quarterback after he rolled out to avoid Myers’ pressure and got him down at the 22.
K. Johnson returned the punt to the 26 for the Wildcats. The pass to Alex Bobo got the ball to the 21. Batcher was sacked back at the 30 on third down to bring up fourth and 14. The field goal unit came out for a 47-yard kick, the attempt fell short. The score remains 7-0 with 1:37 left.
Sam Bobo made the tackle on the 6 yard run up the middle on the ensuing Pioneer possession. The snap on the next play was fumbled and Wildcat Colby Tucker recovered the ball at the 24. Bratcher threw a swing pass to M. Johnson for 9 yards after he made a defensive back miss. A pre-snap penalty by Tullahoma ended the quarter making it second and 6 at the 20.
M. Johnson gained 2 on the next play and then Bratcher found an open Grizzard at the goal line for a 18-yard TD. There was trouble on the extra point and it was no good. The ‘Cats led 13-0 with 11:17 left in the half.
Will Hyden made the tackle for a loss of 2, Russell Simmons came in and made sure the ball carrier went down on the first play of the next Pioneer possession. Liam Grider and Simmons made a tackle for another loss of 2. The third down pass 20 yards down the middle of the field was incomplete forcing a Pioneer punt. K. Johnson returned the punt to the Warren County 39. M. Johnson carried up the middle for 2. Bratcher’s pass over the middle was incomplete. On third and 8 the swing to M. Johnson got the ball to the 27 for a first down. After two incomplete passes and a 1 yard loss on a screen pass, the field goal unit came out for a 46-yard try. Chadwick’s kick was good giving Tullahoma the 16-0 lead with 7:17 left in the first half.
The Kickoff went out of bounds, so the Pioneers took over at their own 35. A screen right lost 3 yards, Hyden made the tackle. The QB was chased out of the pocket by Hill and threw the ball out of bounds. The officials threw a flag for illegal forward pass because the ball didn’t cross the line of scrimmage, which resulted in a 5 yard loss. Myers sacked the QB on the next play back at the 12 to bring up fourth and 23.
K. Johnson returned the ensuing punt to the 42. M. Johnson ran for a 42-yard TD on the next play. He picked up a block downfield from K. Johnson to slow down the defenders in pursuit enough so he could out run them into the end zone. The point after kick was good, 22-0 with 5:08 left in the second quarter. Hyden with a tackle for the loss of 1 yard. The Pioneers got back to the original line of scrimmage before Myers and Tucker made the tackle. The pass on third down was intercepted by Hargrove. He returned it to the 1. M. Johnson lost 1 on the first play, but he got it again and was able to trot into the end zone with the massive hole created by the offensive line for the 2 yard score. Chadwick’s kick was good, 30-0 with 2:39 to go before halftime. The Pioneers gained 6 yards on back to back runs for a fresh set of downs at their own 32. Robert Tatum made a tackle for a loss of 2 with 54 seconds left with the clock running. The next play resulted in a sack for a loss of 3, Tucker brought him down by his shoestrings. That ended the first half. Tullahoma with a commanding 30-0 lead.
Grider returned the second half kickoff to the 47. M. Johnson gained 11 yards on the first carry of the second half. He got 5 more yards on the next play. An incomplete pass and a run by M. Johnson for 2 brought up fourth and 3. An encroachment penalty gave the Wildcats the first down at the Warren County 29-yard line. A jet sweep touch pass to K. Johnson picked up 5. Grizzard made a contested catch on the next play for the 24-yard TD reception. Hailey Prebola’s extra point was good, 37-0 with 6:16 left in third quarter. The running clock mercy rule began since the Pioneer deficit was over 35.
Tullahoma’s defense forced a three and out, so they took over at their own 44 after the punt. Tullahoma brought in some backups. Backup QB Lucas Reed threw a quick screen to Hyden for 8 yards. Jack Damron carried for no gain on second down to end the third quarter. He carried again for 1 to the 47-yard line. On fourth and 1, Reed keep it and tried to pick up the first on the ground. He lost 3 making it Warren County ball at the 50. The Wildcats forced another three and out. The punt was downed at the Tullahoma 11-yard line. Reed with a run for the gain of 11. Beau Banks ran for 1, then ran again to the 32 for a first down. Reed on a QB keeper to the 47. Reed on another run gained 3. Banks lost 2 then gained 5. The Wildcats picked up another first down all the way at the Warren County 26 and were able to run the rest of the clock out. Tullahoma with the 37-0 win before the bye week.
The ‘Cats are off this Friday but will be back in action Fri, Oct. 20 at Spring Hill, who is coming off of a 44-23 loss at Shelbyville.
