Special Olympic athletes compete at Spring Games
The Spring Games for Area 13 Special Olympics drew a good turnout at Wilkins Stadium Tuesday morning on the campus of Tullahoma High School.
Participants, volunteers, parents, friends and students flocked to the field for the annual event which saw special Olympic athletes compete in numerous categories such as track and field events and softball throw. Area 13 encompasses Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Moore and Lincoln counties.
The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Special Olympics transforms lives through the joy of sport, every day, everywhere. They are the world’s largest sports organization for people with intellectual disabilities: with 4.4 million athletes in 170 countries — and millions more volunteers and supporters.
