Pewitt makes return visit to East Lincoln Elementary

Laura Joy Pewitt, a children’s author was invited for a return visit to East Lincoln Elementary School in Tullahoma to read her newest book, “Elsie Saves The Day!” to the children in the kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classrooms. The children loved the story about a bird named Elsie that saved her brother bird when he was lost in a large store and could not find his way out. When he heard Elsie singing in the store, he flew to her and she led him out of the store.

“It is a wonderful story about how important it is to use your God-given talents to help others,” said Dot Watson of the Literacy Council. “Ten of the children in attendance were given a copy of the book because they had had perfect attendance since returning to school after the holidays. Several of the children remembered when Mrs. Pewitt came to the school last year to read her first book, ‘Wally, The Wayward Sea Turtle.’”

Watson said Pewitt’s visits to the schools are always educational. “Not only does Mrs. Pewitt share the books with the children, she teaches them about the animals, their life styles, and an important life lesson,” Watson noted.

Mrs. Pewitt has visited all the elementary schools in Tullahoma and many in Coffee County as well.
