Oak Barrel Half celebrates 14th year

The 14th annual Oak Barrel Half Marathon is in the books, with over 1,200 runners and their spectating friends and families descending upon the Lynchburg square on the morning of Saturday, April 1.

After late night storms passed through the area on Friday night, the overcast and breezy morning held off from rain and proved to be ideal running weather.  Runners from near and far started the 13.1 route at the starting line near the Lynchburg Gazebo.  Mach Tenn Running Club along with countless volunteers and local groups supported the race and the after race festivities.  Each water station along the course is supported by a local group, including the Moore County Fire Department who was voted favorite stop.  In turn, the local volunteer groups receive a generous donation from the proceeds.

The winners included the first man, Josh Whitehead of Madison, Alabama who finished first overall with a time of 1:12:46.  That equals an average pace of five and half minute miles for 13.1 miles.

The first woman was Rachel Mason of Signal Mountain, who finished the Oak Barrel Half Marathon in just 1:28:23 as the first woman and seventh overall with an average pace of 6:44/mile.
