Coffee County in freeze warning

While the first day of spring is a week away, Tullahoma is feeling the chill as Middle Tennessee is under freeze warning now in effect from 11 p.m. this evening to 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 15.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), portions of Middle Tennessee will experience sub-freezing temperatures as low as 26 expected from this evening at 11 p.m. to Tuesday morning.

“Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage to unprotected outdoor plumbing,” NWS officials said. “A hard freeze below 27 degrees will also be possible for locations across the Cumberland plateau region.”

NWS officials added that freezing conditions will occur again Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

To best prepare for the cold temperatures, NWS officials state those with plants should now take steps to protect them from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, pipes and faucets should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Anyone who has in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
