County animal shelter hopes to break ground by deadline

Coffee County hopes to beat the end of fiscal year deadline for breaking ground on the new animal control shelter, according to estimates the county mayor gave the Health, Welfare and Recreation Committee.

The deadline was set by the County Commission when it allocated the ARP COVID relief monies to go as a seed fund to aid in fundraising for the shelter.

“I think we will break ground on this thing…if we are going to put it there (the former Fann’s Salvage site) I think the land could be ours if it works out as early as May. If we can get the drawings done and have a ground breaking easily by the end of the calendar year,” Matheny said.
