Preschool worker charged with throwing chair at 3-year-old

A preschool worker in Wartrace faces felony charges for allegedly hitting a 3-year-old girl in the head with a chair at a child care facility.

The suspect, Cameron Hunter, 22, of Shelbyville is charged with aggravated child abuse after the alleged incident was captured on surveillance video. The crime happened at Stay-N-Play Child Care in the Wartrace area. The child’s parents said there was swelling and bruising noted on the girl, reportedly from the impact of the chair. The crime itself was reported by the daycare after it became aware of the incident.

Mystery still surrounds what caused the chair throwing as the video shows Hunter watching a group of children while they played. The suspect is shown sitting in a chair while the victim is playing with other children. Then, the suspect is seen getting up, grabbing a nearby chair and tossing it at the child.

Investigators say there is nothing apparent in the video that would have triggered Hunter to lose her temper and toss the chair. There is no sound with the video.
