Motlow women win first of season
The Motlow women’s basketball team outscored Volunteer State 18-14 in overtime and beat the Lady Pioneers 71-67 last Saturday in Gallatin for their first win of the season.
The Bucks (1-13, 1-10) won the game at the free-throw line, connecting on 31-34 attempts, including a school-record 20-20 by Morgan Webb. Motlow attempted only seven 3-point shots but connected on four, while shooting 38% from the field for the game.
Motlow led after one quarter 13-11, but the home team took the halftime lead 23-20. The Bucks won the third quarter 21-13 to lead 41-36 heading into the fourth quarter, which ended with the teams tied at 53.
Webb, Motlow’s leading scorer on the season, finished with 32 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jheilaa Thomas scored 14 points with six assists, three rebounds, and three steals.
Kameya Bridgewater hauled in 15 rebounds while scoring 10 points with three assists, three blocked shots, and two steals. Destiny Russell had 11 points with six rebounds, three steals, and two assists. A’Maria Thomison scored four points and added nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
The Bucks will return Copperweld Arena to host Jackson State on Saturday, Feb. 4. Tipoff is 2 p.m. and admission is free.
