Eleven-year-old Lyndon Thammarath introduced his first novel, “The Demigod Journey” during a literacy/STEM night, March 23 at College Street Elementary School.
“The three characters are on a mission to save the world from an evil god,” Thammarath said.
Thammarath said that he and some friends had the idea to write a book after reading one of the Percy Jackson books.
So Thammarath set pen to paper, and finishing the work, decided to publish it on Amazon.
This all started when he was in the fourth grade.
His mom, Dawn, said that Thammarath did all of the work himself, only coming to his parents when he needed a way for Amazon to pay him for his sales.
“He started with the Kindle version and then he researched further on how to do a paperback,” she said.
Now Thammarath has sold over 200 copies of “The Demigod Journey” and is working on a second one.
Dawn said that Thammarath’s accomplishments are an inspiration to students.
“He struggled in kindergarten and first grade with reading, so much that both teachers wanted to hold him back a year. Now he’s reading two grades above his level and writing this book,” she said.
“This is a huge accomplishment for him,” she added. “We want to spread the word to other kiddos, ‘keep working at it. Keep trying; you can get there,’” she said.
Thammarath will be at a meet-and-greet at Coffee County Middle School on April 24 at 9 a.m. Copies will be available for purchase there or on Amazon.
The Kindle price is $4.99, Paperback is $12.95. It has a five out of five-star reviews.
