Tullahoma needs a tax reduction

It’s good that the current draft of the city 2024 budget has no proposed property tax increase for Tullahomans. What would be better would be a property tax reduction. The unprecedented levels of inflation during the Biden administration have driven up the price of everyday food items and necessities – eggs, milk, pizza, gas, toilet paper, etc. Many Tullahoma families are struggling to make ends meet and have certainly experienced a reduction in disposable income because of the increased cost of these goods, coupled with minimal increases in salaries.

Therefore, it is incumbent upon our city Board of Mayor and Alderman and city staff to make every effort to trim the 2024 budget, as Tullahoma families are having to do. The fact that sales tax revenues have increased dramatically from the many new stores – Publix, Marshalls, Old Navy, Ross, 5 below, etc., in our town, should make this doable. Coffee County leadership was able to do it. Tullahoma should follow their example.
