Franklin County elections set for Aug. 3

Franklin County’s municipal elections are less than two months away, and the qualifying field clearly indicates Winchester will have a new mayor.

Mayor Terry Harrell has opted not to seek re-election, and the qualifying field on the Aug. 3 ballot includes incumbent City Councilman Steve Cagley, Sean Crabtree and David A. Marlowe contending for that open position.

Vying for two Winchester City Council positions will be incumbent Barbara A. Lucas and challengers Kent Bean, Mike Foster, Gary L. Horn and Tim L. Wright.

In Cowan, incumbent Josephine Holman, Price Tucker and Tiffany L. Walker will be competing for two City Council positions.

In Decherd, Mayor Mary Nell Hess will be running unopposed while incumbent Alderman Larry Fraley, Mark Bassett, Anita Bohanan and Glenn Summers will be vying for two alderman seats.

Estill Springs Mayor James David Kelley is also unchallenged while Earl Davis, Troy Jernigan, Bobby Taylor and Pat Thomas will be running for two full-term and two unexpired-term alderman positions.

Huntland has three open alderman positions and as many candidates on the ballot to fill them, including Harry E. Allen III, Troy Gamble and Ken Pendleton.
