Eagle Extravagance

N

I once was privileged to see

Five large eagles sitting in a tree

Just observing the world around them

With no thought for me.

The day was very cold and quiet

Their surroundings blanketed in snow

They hardly moved a feather

Until it was time to go.

They seemed to have a silent signal

For when it was time to fly

They all flew together

Creating thunder in the sky.

I have long admired the mighty eagle

But always from a distance

I have a new appreciation for him now

I see him as God’s proud extravagance.

A bird with this much strength and power

Could have only been conceived by the One who understood

What glorious power and strength can arise

From a blood-stained piece of wood.
