Monday’s storm made quite in impact in Tullahoma as the Tullahoma Utilities Authority (TUA) had crews out to handle power restoration.
Allen Potter, TUA Manager of Engineering and Operations, said from 11:48 a.m. to 11:52 a.m., TUA received outage reports for over 1,000 TUA customers due to either trees falling and tearing down primary conductors or assumed lightning strikes. The neighborhoods that were affected at the time were Westside Drive, Ovoca Road, Sherwood and Crossfield, Lauderdale and Summit and the southwest quadrant of Tullahoma. Potter added, along with other scattered outages, TUA received more outage reports in the early afternoon regarding limbs falling on primary conductors, causing disruption of power to customers in both Anderson and Kaywood subdivisions.
“In total, the storm caused 17 separate outages affecting 1,248 customers,” Potter said. “Electric and Fiber crews had all services restored by 8 p.m.”
After restoring power to TUA customers, TUA sent four linemen to Lenoir City to assist with storm restoration.
The storm, packing gusts in excess of 60 miles per hour, moved east from Tullahoma and slammed Manchester, leaving schools like Westwood Middle in the dark for most of their afternoon session. Meanwhile, as the storm swept further east, it extended the summer break in neighboring Warren County by a day after damaging schools there, leading to the system to delay the first day of school until Wednesday.
