Tullahoma wins battle of Wildcats 41-6

Tullahoma hosted Lawrence County and sent them back home after a 41-6 beat down.

The Wildcats’ third straight win moved them into sole possession of second place in the Region with a 3-1 region record and a 5-2 overall record.

The offense continued their terrific play, scoring at least four touchdowns for the third straight week. Quarterback Mason Bratcher threw for over 130 yards with 2 touchdowns while running back Marvancy Johnson tallied over 100 yards on the ground with 2 TD.

Tullahoma got the ball first to begin the game at the Lawrence County 37-yard line after Khani Johnson returned the squib kick. M. Johnson carried for a gain of 7 on the first play from scrimmage. K. Johnson go the jet sweep pass on second down and gained 2 before M. Johnson went up the middle to pick up the first down on a tough 4 yard run. Bratcher hit M. Johnson on a check down for a gain of 8 to get into Lawrence County territory at the 42. A strong run up the middle by M. Johnson through multiple defenders gained 12. Bratcher hit K. Johnson on a slant for a gain of 15. Then M. Johnson ran it on back-to-back plays to make it third and 2 at the 7. A swing left to K. Johnson moved the ball to the 1, then the ‘Cats gave the ball to M. Johnson up the middle for the TD. Grant Chadwick’s extra point was good, Tullahoma went up 7-0 with 7:43 left in the first quarter. Lawrence County’s first play was a run for 12 yards. The next play gained 6, the next run picked up 2 yards before Colby Tucker made the stop. Then on third and 2 DeCarlos Slaughter made a tackle for a 1 yard loss. They took a delay of game and then punted on fourth and 8, the ball was downed at the Tullahoma 37. M. Johnson ran up the middle for a 14 yard carry into Lawrence County territory. On second and 10 Bratcher hit K. Johnson for a gain of 22, there was a face mask penalty at the end of the play that moved the ball to the 22. K. Johnson got it again on a bubble screen for a gain of 3. M. Johnson picked up a first down at the 9, then picked up another 3 yards on the next play before Bratcher found K. Johnson wide open on the right side for the 6-yard TD. Chadwick’s kick was good, 14-0 with 3:10 left in the quarter. The first play for Lawrence County was a toss left that got blown up by Slaughter for a loss of 2. After a 4 yard run, Will Hyden picked off the third down pass and returned it to the 12. The ‘Cats could not get into the end zone, only picking up 2 yards on three plays so Chadwick came out for the 27-yard field goal. The kick was good, 17-0 with 39 seconds left. The quarter ended with Lawrence County facing a second and 10. 

The picked up 4 yards before Hyden brought down the ball carrier. They ran right and got the ball just short of the 35 to make it fourth and inches. The Wildcats ran a QB sneak for the first down at the 36. Robert Tatum immediately stopped the first down run for a loss of 1. Then Lawrence County ran a Flea Flicker and gained a huge chunk moving the ball all the way to the Tullahoma 6. They gained 1 on a run before Tucker and Beau Banks made the tackle. Hyden shut the run left down for a loss of 1. The third down run was stuffed by Tucker at the 5. They went for it on fourth and goal after calling a timeout and scored on a pass of the middle. The extra point was no good, 17-6 Tullahoma leading with 6:57 left in the half. Tullahoma fumbled on their first play from scrimmage and Lawrence County recovered at the Tullahoma 42. Slaughter made a tackle to only give up 1 yard on the run. A tough run by the Wildcats’ ball carrier got it to the 32 for a first down. They gained 4, then another 2 before Jalen Hill stopped the runner to force third and 4. Tucker made the tackle, but not until the ball got to the 21 for the first down. Tatum and Banks combined for a tackle at the 13 to make it third and 2. Tatum made another stop for no gain bringing up fourth and 2. They went for it and picked up 11 yards. Then they ran it into the end zone, but a penalty brought the ball back to the 7-yard line. Tucker made a tackle for no gain. A bad snap had the ball go over the QB’s head, the ball was picked up by Eli Morgan and he rumbled down to the Lawrence County 40 before being brought down with 37 seconds left. On second and 9, Bratcher went down the field for K. Johnson who went up in between two defenders to make a highlight reel catch at the 6. They hurried up and spiked the ball with 21 seconds on the clock. Trouble on the snap, but Tullahoma fell on the ball at the 20 and took a timeout with 14 seconds left. On third and goal from the 20 the pass was incomplete, so Chadwick and the field goal unit came out for a 37-yard try. There was trouble with the snap again, Chadwick fell on the ball at the 45. Lawrence County took a knee to go into halftime with a score of 17-6.

Lawrence County opened the second half picking up a first down on the ground. Then on a second and 5 play Aiden Kelley made a tackle to force third and 3. Slaughter made the tackle on the run up the middle but it still gained 3 yards and a first down. The next play the Wildcats tried to run a play action pass, but Ezra Myers came around the edge and got the sack for loss a of 7. Kelly made a tackle for a loss of 2. The pass left was incomplete, Kelly and Hyden were in coverage. A flag for roughing the punter gave Lawrence County a first down at the 48. The Wildcats’ drive ended after incomplete passes on third and fourth down. Tullahoma took over at their own 47 with 5:52 left in the third quarter. On second and 10 Bratcher hit K. Johnson for a gain of 31 yards to the Lawrence County 22. M. Johnson ran down to the 9. Then on the next play a flag on Lawrence County moved the ball to the 4. M. Johnson carried twice and got the ball to the 1 for third and goal. Then the offensive line opened up a massive hole for him to run into the end zone untouched. Chadwick’s kick was good 24-6 with 3:05 left in the quarter. Lawrence County picked up a first down at the 30, then lost a yard on back-to-back plays bringing up third and 12 as the quarter ended.

The third down pass gained 14. On the next play Slaughter crushed the QB on a pass attempt forcing an incomplete pass. After another first down, Tatum destroyed the QB before he could get rid of the ball and forced a fumble. The ball was recovered by Tullahoma at their own 49. M. Johnson ran for a gain of 6, then Bratcher hit Malik Grizzard for a gain of 16 yards. M. Johnson ran again for a gain of 19. He got another carry and scored a 10-yard TD. Hailey Prebola kicked the extra point through the uprights to make it 31-6 with 8:42 left. The Wildcats turned the ball over on downs after picking up one first down and Tullahoma took over at the Lawrence County 37.  The backups came in for the ‘Cats, Lucas Reed ran for 2 yards and Jakoby Hill gained 4. They did not pick up a first down so Chadwick came out for a 48-yard field goal that he made. The score was now 34-6 with 3:28 left in game. Gavin Seabolt got a sack on the first play and Lawrence could not pick up a first down after that turning it over on downs again. Tullahoma took over at the 26 with 2:22 left. Reed ran for a gain of 13. Then Banks carried for a 13-yard TD with 1:30 left. Prebola with another extra point made it 41-6. The time ran out after two play by Lawrence County.

Tullahoma will host Warren County Friday for their last home game of the regular season and their last non region game.
