Lady Wildcats take second in Region

The Tullahoma High School girls’ soccer team is off to sectionals and a possible date with the state finals after falling one game short of a regional title as they lost at Franklin County this past week 4-1 in the championship game.
The Lady ‘Cats had a chance to avenge their loss in penalty kicks one week ago and came up short. The Rebelettes controlled the ball throughout the game as the Wildcats could not connect on their passes consistently.
Claire Fogarty made a sliding save in 14th min. With 18:44 on clock, Franklin County got a 1 on 1 and they beat Fogarty to side net. Fogarty made another save one minute later. At the 13:25 she made a save on a shot inside the box. The Rebelettes scored another goal at 11:06. They beat Fogarty to the top net. She made another save in the 33rd minute of the first half. Franklin County had a direct kick that was saved by Fogarty in the 38th min. She hit the ball over the top of the net. Then she caught the cross after Franklin County out the ball in play on the corner. Tullahoma was down 2-0 at the half.
Less than two minutes into the second half Franklin County added to their lead with a shot that went into the top left corner of the net. At the end of the 8th minute of the second half, Fogarty made three saves back to back to back. She had come out of the net for the ball, but was beat there by the offensive player who attempted to kick it over her but she blocked the shot with her body and blocked the ricochet. In the 13th minute a through ball created a 1 on 1 for the Rebelettes and they scored to make it 4-0. Avery Sisk had a scoring chance in the box 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper. She was fouled by the keeper, who was given a yellow card. Brindley Duncan took the penalty kick. She beat the goalkeeper for the goal with 10:55 on the clock. Fogarty added a couple more saves in the last five minutes. Final score was 4-1.
The Lady Wildcats’ advanced to the region title tilt after winning their region semi-final game at Livingston Academy. The game was tied 0-0 at the half. Midway through the second half the Lady ‘Cats got the scoring started on a goal from Gracie Martin. She was assisted by Brindley Duncan from a McLayne Bobo throw-in. Later in the half with 12 minutes left, Bobo beat two defenders and played a pass to Martin who scored into the side net. Tullahoma took a 2-0 lead with Martin’s second goal. The score remained 2-0, sending the Lady Wildcats to their first Region Final since 2005.
Tullahoma will travel to Signal Mountain Tomorrow for their Sectional game. If the Lady ‘Cats win they will qualify for State according to the bracket via TSSAA’s website.
