‘Outwork everyone’ – hard work pays off for Agnell

P

For most wrestlers, the season is about to start ramping up, but for ones that are successful, wrestling is a year round sport.

For two-time state qualifier, Payton Agnell, there has been no off-season. She is in the wresting room 4-5 days a week, as well as hitting the gym after practice.  She has been working out with her club team, Ground Zero Wrestling Club, coached by Randall Jennings. Her motto has always been “outwork everyone.”

Just a few weeks ago, Payton was asked to wrestle in the state of Tennessee’s first ever “Who’s Number One” tournament. Payton was able to secure a second period pin over a familiar foe and club teammate, Franklin County’s Alyssa Archer, to claim the 107 pound weight class title.

The following weekend Payton went up to Indianapolis, Ind., to wrestle in the Rudis Midwest Preseason National Tournament where she was able to place fifth and claim All-American status.

This past weekend Payton wrestled in the Grapple on the Gridiron tournament in Spring Hill where she placed first. Under new coach, Bob Callison, the sky is the limit for this senior.
