Wildcats blow past Golden Eagles

Tullahoma High School basketball teams went to Shelbyville for their second matchup of the season and came away with two wins, for both teams to complete the season sweep. 

Lady ‘Cats pounce on Lady Eagles

Tullahoma got out to an early lead and never gave it up. They were led in scoring by McLayne Bobo with 17 points. She hit two 3-pointers and went 5-for-6 from the foul line. Aubrey North scored 11, going 5-for-8 from the stripe and knocking down two 3-pointers.

The Lady Wildcats scored led by seven after the first quarter. Lakaiyah Barnes led in scoring during the first with 4 points. She sunk both of her free throw attempts. North and Isabella Lidstrom both hit a 3-pointer. Bobo added the last 2 points. Shelbyville got 3 points from Paige Blackburn and 2 points from Lanaya Young. The ‘Cats were up 12-5 going into the second quarter.

The second quarter was the biggest offensive quarter for Tullahoma, scoring 14 points. North led the way scoring 5. She drained another 3 and hit two shots from the line. Bobo and Lily Melton each made a 3 pointer. Lidstrom scored 3 points, getting one from the free throw line. The Lady Eagles scored 8 points. They got 4 from Young, 3 from Yas McFarland and 1 from Morgan Pridmore. Tullahoma led 26-13 at halftime.

The third quarter was the Lady Wildcats’ worst offensive quarter, only scoring 9. Bobo accounted for 7 of the points. She hit three shots including a make from beyond the arc. Melton scored the other 2 by hitting both of her foul shots. Shelbyville scored 10 points to win the third. Blackburn scored 7 and Young scored 3 from the line. The Lady ‘Cats led 35-23 going into the final quarter.

Shelbyville won the fourth quarter as well, but it was too little too late. Tullahoma got 5 points from Bobo at the foul line. North added 3 from the stripe. Barnes and Melton both hit field goals for 2 points each. The Golden Eagles scored 15 points in the quarter. Young scored 8, Blackburn scored 5 and Pridmore added 2.

The Lady ‘Cats hit six 3-pointers and went 15 for 20 from the free throw line. Shelbyville hit four 3-pointers and went 12 for 20 from the line.

‘Cats soar over Eagles

Tullahoma hit 31 shots in route to a 78-39 rout of Shelbyville. They were led in scoring by Khani Johnson with 16 points, with 11 in the third quarter. Malik Grizzard scored 13, making three 3-pointers.

The Wildcats came out hot, scoring 20 points in the opening quarter. They were led by Grizzard and Jaiden Sanchez with 5 points each. Grizzard hit a 3 and made both free throws. Alex Bobo and Keegan Taylor each hit a 3-pointer. DeAndre Jenkins and Jayden Thompson both scored 2 points. Shelbyville scored 7 points in the quarter. They got 3 from Kyler Trice. Jevon Lee and Tae-Shawn Shelton both scored 2.

Tullahoma kept putting the ball in the hoop, scoring another 21 points in the second quarter. Grizzard led the team in scoring in the second with 6 points. Johnson scored his first 5 points of the game. Jenkins, Taylor, Sanchez and Xavier Farrell each scored 2 points. Austin Tinnon and Bryson Steverson both made a free throw, scoring 1 point each. Shelbyville scored 10 points, led by Shelton and Trice with 4 points each. Mari Draper scored the other 2. The ‘Cats were up 41-17 at halftime.

Tullahoma continued to build on their lead winning the third quarter 22-13. Johnson led the way with 11 points, including a made 3. Grizzard and Taylor both sunk a 3. Jenkins also scored 3 with a made free throw. Tinnon scored 2 points in the third. The Golden Eagles got 6 points from Shelton, 5 from Draper and 1 from Lee and Rocky Chandler. Tullahoma led 63-30 going into the fourth.

The Wildcats kept the dominance up, winning the fourth quarter 15-10. Will Hyden led the scoring with 6 points. Sam Bobo scored 4 points. Aiden Kelley and Thompson each scored 2 points. Shelbyville was led by Lampert with 5 points. Billy Brown Jr. hit a 3 and Jack Conditt scored 2.

Tullahoma hit eight 3-pointers and went 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Shelbyville hit one 3-pointer and went 6 for 16 from the stripe.

Both teams will be in action at home tomorrow playing host to Moore County, the girls’ game will start at 5 p.m. with the boys’ game following. They play again on Tue, Jan. 9 facing Marshall County in the first district game of the season. The Lady ‘Cats’ game will tip off at 6 p.m. with the Wildcats’ game following.
