Churches of Tullahoma – Pt. 1
A
Churches are an important part of any town’s history, and they were often the earliest public buildings erected in a town’s early days. Besides their obvious spiritual connections and benefits, they also serve as social gathering places, sites where lifelong friendships are forged, shelters during weather-related disasters, schools, and so much more. Sadly, many of the beautiful church buildings which housed worshippers have been demolished over the years, their beauty relegated to our memories and to picture postcards. Tullahoma still has some classic buildings, well-maintained, and tastefully expanded.
The images shown here are all from postcards, either from my own collection or that of local history buff, Jimmy Walker. Jimmy has a wonderful collection of Tullahoma photos, some of which I will present over the next few weeks and months. In order to present the church photos large enough to see detail, we’ll break this series up. This is Part 1. See the captions for description. If you have interesting historical information on these or other churches in Tullahoma, and/or photos, please reach out to me at the e-mail address below.
Do you have some old Tullahoma photos and accompanying stories to share? You can contact me at alanmayes@lighttube.net.
