A Coffee County man checking on his livestock was killed Friday when his vehicle slid off the road and burst into flames.
The man, Hix Ramsey, 73, succumbed to injuries he sustained in the Friday afternoon accident that happened on Hoover Road in Coffee County. The fatality happened while the Mid-South remained frozen in arctic temperatures which locked most of the ice and snow from a pair of winter weather events last Monday and Thursday into the ground and onto most secondary roads.
According to the highway patrol report on the fatal crash, Ramsey was traveling south on Hoover Road in his 2000 Ford F-250 when he apparently lost traction on the ice and snow and left his lane of travel. He then traveled off the left side of the roadway and collided with two wooden fence posts. After the crash, his truck burst into flames and engulfed the truck.
