A local man was killed Wednesday in a crash in front of Coffee County Middle School on Woodbury Highway.

The fatality injured victim has been identified as Gary Bryant, 76. The wreck happened at 8:37 a.m. on Highway 53 in Coffee County and involved Bryant’s 2002 GMC Sierra and a 2023 Toyota Camry driven by Richard Campbell, 61. He had an 11-year-old passenger. Both escaped injury.

According to the Highway Patrol report, Bryant was heading west on Highway 53 when he struck Campbell from behind. The impact caused Bryant’s vehicle to veer left and continue across the westbound turning lane. Campbell’s vehicle then struck the oncoming 2001 Ford F-150 driven by Randi Fults, 36. The offset head-on crash proved fatal to Bryant but Fults escaped injury.
