TUA board approves Ledford Mill wastewater project cost

Tullahoma Utilities Authority checked off the final construction cost for the Ledford Mill wastewater project in its January meeting.
The TUA Board of Director discussed the final pay request from the contractor Prince Utility LLC for the Ledford Mill wastewater project, which the board approved of the project in February last year,
“There are a few adjustments to the unit price quantities that caused the original contract amount to increase by $46,147.68 for a total construction cost of $916,360.68,” Skelton said in a memo to the board.
Per Skelton, the majority of the overage was for necessary extensions of the wastewater mains, and TUA had the contractor extend the 15-inch wastewater line by an additional 135 feet to get it to a property line that will “facilitate the anticipated extension of the line in the future.” In addition, a 12-inch spur line from the 15-inch line, as designed, was ending up in an “undesirable low drainage area.”
“This line in the future will be available to serve some of the property on the west side of North Jackson Street past Lowes,” Skelton said. “One additional adjustment was for additional silt fencing and sediment control that was imposed by TDEC (Tennessee Department of Energy and Conservation) after the project was bid.”
TUA Vice President of Water/Wastewater Scott Young clarified to the board that the $46,147.68 was what was over the budgeted amount, as the final payment was $239,126.58. Skelton added the project needed the board’s approval to pay what was not originally budgeted, which would be the extra $46,147.68, and not making the final payment.
With no further discussion or amendments needed to be made, the board unanimously approve of the final payment to the contractor for the Ledford Mill Wastewater Project, with the funds coming from the wastewater reserves.
