Incumbents coast in school board race, Fletcher wins Assessor

Four candidates won the Republican nominations for Tullahoma school board during the March 5 GOP primary, all but insuring they will take the oath of office after the August general election since no one is waiting in the wings to challenge them. Meanwhile, the new county property assessor already works in the office as Elissa Fletcher won the office handily over two challengers.

Fletcher finished with 3,196 votes far exceeding second place finisher, Tullahoma Alderman Jenna Amacher who garnered an even 1,300 votes while local businessman William Huel Goldston was third with 1,240 votes.

For Tullahoma City Schools Board of Education, there were three seats for four-year terms. Incumbent Kim Uselton garnered top spot with 1,771 votes while incumbent Pat Welsh was just behind with 1,695. Newcomer Broc Compton will join them on the board as he got 1,121. Fanchyon Miller finished fourth with 854 votes, meaning she will not advance to the general election in August. For the two-year term, Rosie Graham garnered 1,465 votes to 800 pulled by incumbent Beth Harrison. The totals reflect votes in Coffee and Franklin counties as a portion of Tullahoma residents vote in Franklin County.

On the county level, Dowe Langford Jones ran unopposed for the seat of County Commissioner District 1, while Roger W. Chambers got the top spot for seat of County Commissioner District 2 with 221 votes. Runner ups in the race was Lee Sullivan with 140 votes and Benton Brown with 103 votes. For Road Commmissioner Seat 2, District 4 Arlis Markum ran unopposed with 549 votes.

As for the Coffee County School Board, Holly Matthews garnered the most votes for Seat 1 – Districts 1,3 & 4 with 656 votes, with Gary Nester getting 533 votes and Sherie Petty netting 436 votes. For Seat 2 – Districts 2, 6 & 7, Gary Cordell and Scott Hansert were the only candidates for the two spots, with Cordell getting 1,007 votes while Hansert got 984 votes. For Seat 3 – District 5, 8 & 9, Robert Gilley and Beth Yentsch got the two spots for the seat with Gilley getting 1,662 votes and Yentsch with 1,409 votes.

Other races that were decided were Constable Seat 3 – Districts 5,8 & 9 where Randal Braker ran unopposed and got 1,936 votes. As for the Manchester City school board, Susan Parsley and Lee Sullivan go the two spots with Parsley getting 706 votes and Sullivan getting 641 votes.

In Coffee County a total of 6,903 people voted, with 6,412 of them voting in the GOP primary. There are 36,652 registered voters in Coffee County.

For President, Joe Biden got 444 votes while Donald Trump got 4,820 to 1,123 for sole challenger Nikki Haley.
